Chef, Little Chef and I headed there for a special family lunch, invited by Crown. The dining room is a stunner, overlooking the luxe Crown Towers lagoon pools. There’s plenty of seating and the plush chairs are very comfortable.

Chef and I also recently had what was quite possible the biggest, longest breakfast ever when we stay overnight at Crown Towers. Here’s our experience of both:

Lunch at Epicurean

With such an array of tempting aromas, it’s very difficultto decide where to start. I’d suggest beginning with the cold section that has moresalads than you can shake a stick at (I loved the Scandinavian salmon andpotato salad), a big range of sushi, cured meats, bread, cheese and antipasti.

The fresh seafood selection is also pretty special withcrabs, prawns, oysters, smoked salmon and more.

It was tempting to over-indulge in all this tastiness, but I was mindful that there was still so much of the buffet to try. Moving onto “mains” there’s a wide range of Asian, Indian and Roast meats to choose from. In this hot section there are live cooking stations where you can see the chefs whip up something delicious or carve your meat before your eyes.

I particularly enjoyed the tender roasted meats, with all the trimmings – roasties, steamed veg and Yorkshire puddings! The curries were also delicious, none were crazy hot, but full of flavours from the aromatic Indian spices. And of course there’s plenty of rice, vegetable sides, naan bread, as well as pickles and sauces to accompany.

What a scrumptious feast!

I had to have a breather before I could start on desserts, though Little Chef was raring to go! The amazing selection of sweets looks likesomething out of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory!

The Desserts

Sweet tooths won’t know where to start with cakes, slices, drawspacked full of petite fours, fruit, mousse, jelly, ice cream and of courseEpicureans beautiful centrepiece, the chocolate fountain.

We loved decorating the selection of ice creams (including dairy free / gluten free sorbets) with the big range of toppings.

I was really impressed with Little Chef’s plating skills of the mint choc ice cream, Oreo cookies and smarties! Not bad for a 9 year old, he definitely has Cheffing in his genes.

My dessert plate was brimming with mousse, truffles, marshmallow, chocolate bark and a couple of token strawberries.

And for the grand finale, there’s the stunning chocolatefountain. Here, there’s a selection of fresh fruits and other delicious morselsfor sticking on skewers and dipping into the fountain which runs with ooeygooey chocolate. On the day we visited it was International Chocolate day, sothere was very special jaffa chocolate, white chocolate and milk chocolate todip your fruit, cake or marshmallows into!

Breakfast at Epicurean

Breakfast at Epicurean is also a lavish affair. Afterbeginning with a coffee, I started small to work my way up to a full, cookedbreakfast. There’s LOTS to choose from – muesli, cereals, toast and preserves, freshfruit, yogurt… I chose a GF granola with a dollop of yogurt and fruit, as wellas a yummy protein ball.

At Epicurean you can load your plate with the ultimatefry-up. Choose from several types of bacon and sausages, eggs done how youlike, and all the essential sides like baked beans, black pudding, mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes, toast and more. There’s even breakfast pizza!

The Gluten Factor

Being gluten free, I found such a large, unlabelled buffetoverwhelming. At Epicurean, it’s safer to ask a chef if something is glutenfree or not, as you never know if there’s some pesky gluten hiding in amarinade or sauce. I found a Chef very easily, who seemed to be overseeing thebuffet and he happily walked me through the entire buffet and explained what Icould and couldn’t eat. With so many dishes, it was a little difficult toremember it all, but I generally steered clear of the Asian section, but theIndian and roast meat/carvery dishes were mainly safe. Even though there was alot I couldn’t eat, there was loads that I could, so I still felt spoiled forchoice and left both times felling very satisfied and like my buttons weregoing to burst!

Epicurean is a wonderful restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even for fussy eaters, there’s bound to be something in the vast selection of dishes to tickle everyone’s tastebuds – making it perfect for a special meal with a big group too. We loved our experiences and Little Chef has been pestering me to return ever since – not that I need any convincing! Epicurean is 100% the best premium and most extravagant buffet in Perth.
